Young Author Books

Today the students submitted their Young Author books in class.  Each grade level needs to select four representatives to move on to the district level competition.  Today we divided up into small groups and shared the stories that were written.  Each group choose the one they felt was the best in their group.  From there the 5th grade teachers will team together to determine our grade level reps.  It was fun to watch them circle up and share their hard work.

Valentine's Day Celebration

Next Tuesday is Valentine's Day.  Today we discussed our holiday party and notes were sent home.  If you would like to create valentines for the class you may bring them in on Tuesday.  You will also need a box or a gift bag to collect valentines.

We will be having a contest to judge the best Valentine's Day Box.  Boxes will be awarded prizes based on the following catagories:
1.  Best Valentine Themed box
2.  Best Sport Themed box
3.  Most Unique box

We will vote on the boxes at the party. 
There is also a Google Doc posted on the right side of the blog for party supplies and snacks.  Please sign up if you wish to donate to the class party.
We have decided to play board or card games at our party next week.  Please bring in your favorite game to share.
**Remember to spread those acts of kindness and not reveal to ANYONE who your person is until our party on Friday.  Have fun, spread joy, make your person's life amazing..............but don't let them catch on that it is you!~  :))))

Young Author Books

All Young Author Books need to be completed by Friday.  This has been an in class project with the exception of having families read over and proofread the stories.  The students are all in the illustration phase of the process.  The books are so far wonderful in quality.  In order to maintain that quality throughout and not get in a situation where they need to rush to finish, please be sure to spend some time on these at home.

Students are in a good place if book is completed with the exception of 2 or 3 pages of illustrating and the front and back cover.  We will have some time in class this week to work.

It truly has been a wonderful Friday!  We have so much to celebrate.  On top of everything, our class had 100% turn in on this week's reading challenge.  What an amazing day!  We are so proud!

We had such wonderful support in our school and in our classroom for World Cancer Day!  We were so proud to wear our Pajamas and raise money for the American Childhood Cancer Organization.

Our Challenger Mission

We had a wonderful time on yesterday's field trip to the Woodstock Challenger Center.  The students did an amazing job of working together as a team to make our mission a success.  They discovered a new long term comet and decided to name it "Comet Wagner."  I couldn't have been more proud of their efforts and teamwork.  It was a wonderful day for all.
Thank you to the parents that volunteered their time to spend the day with us.

New Blog Game

I've been thinking that our Westwood Wildcat needs a break from traveling for a bit.  He's been all over the world and is pretty exhausted.  So starting on Monday, look for a new game............it will be called:

"Name that U.S. President"

The game will run the same as the wildcat.....each day you'll receive a new clue.  The clues on Monday and Tuesday will be the hardest.  Wednesday and Thursday clues will be more specific and by Friday we will reveal which president the clues were about.

Look for this to begin on Monday!  :)))
