Good morning everyone! Hopefully you're enjoying your first "official" day of summer! There is a great show on the History Channel called "How the States Got Their Shapes" K19 blogged about it a few weeks ago. Well, Mr. Wagner and I have been watching it. It's pretty interesting and a GREAT extension of what we learned in our Regions Unit in Social Studies this year. Set your DVR to record it!!!! :)

Summer has arrived
I want to wish each and every one of you a safe and happy summer. Stay balanced and remember to read, practice a little math, but most importantly be kids and celebrate life with your friends and family. I love each and every one of you and can't wait to see you as 5th graders.
Don't forget our summer picnic on July 13th. We will meet at the pavilion near the big playground at the front of the park.
Check the blog at least once to twice a week so you can keep in touch!
Love,
Mrs. Wagner :)

Field Day
Wow! We had a great time today at Field Day. We participated in track and relay events, completed a tug-o-war with 4th and 5th grade classes, and played some fun games in the back field.
Overall I'm very proud of all the kids, they had a great time and maintained their Westwood Character!
Boys and Girls,
Please post what you enjoyed most about today! :) Remember you can comment on each other's posts as well.
Have a great weekend,
Love,
Mrs. Wagner :)

Parent Help Needed
Dear Parents -
We will be wrapping up our Regions Unit for Social Studies before the end of the school year. As a culmination to this project, we will be making physical maps of the United States using salt dough. This project will be completed in school, but thre are a cople of things we will need in order to get started:
1. Volunteers to make make the salt dough at home and send it in to school on May 16th.
2. A volunteer to call Jewel and see if they can donate the flats they ship strawberries in. We will need these May 16th and we need 27 of them.
3. Volunteers to come in and assist in making the salt dough maps on Tuesday, May 17th from 12:00-2:00pm
If you would like to help in anyway, please comment on this post. Your son/daughter can show you how. Thank you so much for your support, this really is a TEAM project and we couldn't do it without our T.E.A.M. of parents.
Thank you,
Mrs. Wagner ;)

Art Discovery Projects
Today as part of our Art Discovery Program, each student at Westwood Elementary School painted a T-shirt in the style of "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. The students all gathered outside under the front awning and went to work to create some wonderful interpretations of this painting. Hopefully each child came home today full of excitement about their creations. :)
Special thank you to PTO and Art Discovery for funding this program and purchasing shirts and paints.
Thank you to all parents that sent in a $1 donation to help with the cost of the shirts.
Finally, a special thank you to Mrs. Wojtas and Mrs. Schramel for being our Art Discovery Parents this year. We are truly blessed to have you come into our classroom each month to work with us and artistically inspire us! :) You're the best! :)

Today was our annual Wide World Of Wonder day at Westwood School. We had wonderful weather for the day. Numerous sessions were presented by teachers, parents and community members. Students each viewed 4 sessions of their choice. We followed up with a picnic lunch outside on the playground and a wonderful assembly by the "The Power Team."
Special thank you's to everyone who donated their time today, especially Dr. Durante who presented in our classroom.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Students.....feel free to post your favorite part of today's events.....
See you Monday,

Woodstock Public Library Summer Reading Program
Today we had a presentation from the Woodstock Public Library. They came in to talk with the students about the opportunities available to them this summer! The program looks pretty exciting. There will be a kickoff party where the kids will learn to juggle and receive their reading logs. For every 3 hours of reading they can come into the library and choose a prize.
This program matches nicely with Mrs. Jensen's Summer Reading program here at Westwood. By simply reading 30 minutes a day, students can be part of both programs and recieve the incentives and recognition from both. (It will be a requirement to read over the summer anyway, why not make it fun and be rewarded for all that hard work?)
Check out the link below, it attaches to the flyer from the Library and has more information!
Students - list any great books you know would make wonderful summer reads for your classmates!!!

Week of May 2nd
Happy May Day! :)
This week in addition to our regular curriculum, we will be working on MAP testing. We will be testing in the areas of Reading, Math and Language Arts. Today, we looked at our past scores from this school year. It is our hope that each child will be able to meet or beat his or her score! Good luck to everyone. These are important tests as they will be used at the beginning of 5th grade.
Friday is Wide World Of Wonder. This Westwood Tradition is an exciting day full of teachers and guest speakers presenting a wide variety of interesting subjects. We all chose tickets last week for the sessions that most interested us and are looking forward to exciting day Friday (Full of Sunshine please!!!)
